Trace — Fine Art

Trace - 1979 by John Hoyland shows broad painted bands in blue and red that meet along a hard colour edge. The marks run across the picture and the ground holds a worked feel. You see the paint in layers rather than a single flat field.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black and gives the picture a clear border on the wall. A black frame makes the blue band read sharp against the surrounding space.

In a study, the blue and red bands pull the eye across the wall near the desk. From the doorway you notice the hard edge first, then the layered paint. The picture holds its own shape on that wall.
