Trickster — Fine Art

Trickster - 1979 by John Hoyland shows a broad painted field with hard colour bands and quick hand strokes laid over a worked ground. Blue and red sit against each other while a pale band runs through the middle. The surface holds layered colour and a few rough edges.

The fine art print sits on a matte sheet so the light greys stay soft. You can set the frame finish to follow the room. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the pale band clear, and a dark frame on a pale wall lets the red band stand out.

It works on the landing wall beside the stairs, where the light from the hall lamp hits the broad painted field from the side. From the bottom step you see the dark band and the rough painted edges.
