About this work
Tutto 1988 uses a field of repeated letterforms set in rows across the sheet. The letters are small and even, and the eye moves along the lines. Alighiero Boetti made this kind of text based image by laying out a system of signs on a plain ground.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel, so the flat letter grid stays in place. The surface is matte, which helps the small marks stay readable without shine.
In a quiet hallway, the rows of letters read as a measured list rather than a picture. From a doorway the whole grid reads as one block, and up close the small letters show the method behind them.
