About this work
Untitled #152 - 1971 by Gene Davis shows painted colour bands that step across the sheet. The stripes move in one steady direction, each band holding one flat hue set against the next.
The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and that frame edge sits straight against the bands so the picture reads as a clear block on the wall. A white frame keeps the light hues open, while a black frame pulls the darker stripes forward.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, the bands catch the moving light through the window. From the table you see the hard edges line up, and from the doorway the long strip of colour runs across your view.
