About this work
A flat painted form sits on a plain field in Untitled 1953, drawn from the cut out and stabile work of Alexander Calder. The shape reads as a single solid mass with a clear outline and no internal detail. The matte paper keeps the painted tone soft and holds the flat colour without shine.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the sheet a clean edge against the picture. The wood frame warms the surface and sits close to the ground tone. The dark wood frame adds weight to the shape.
On a kitchen wall the flat shape reads from the table, and from the door the outline stays clear. Near the sink the matte surface holds the tone without reflection. The painted mass stays steady on the plain field.
