About this work
Untitled - 1957 by Ernst Wilhelm Nay shows a field of soft colour with a few broad strokes moving across it. The eye starts in the middle and drifts to the edge where the paint thins out. Ernst Wilhelm Nay worked in colour fields and broad brush marks during this period.
This object is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the colour even when a lamp hits it from the side.
In a bedroom above the bed you see the soft colour first and the brush marks only when you stand near the wall. The frame hides the edges so the picture reads as one field.
