About this work
Untitled - 1959 by Robert Ryman shows a quiet painted field built from small strokes and slight changes in tone. The surface is mostly white and grey, with a few marks that sit close together and leave open space around them.
The fine art frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. Choose white, wood, dark wood or black, and the frame finish sits plainly against the painted surface. A white frame keeps the pale tones clear, while a dark wood frame adds a firm line around the softer paint.
It works above a desk in a study where the light comes from a side lamp. From the chair you see the small marks and the open field, and the frame edge stays visible at the top and sides.
