About this work
A sweep of darker grey paint runs across a lighter ground in Untitled - 1962. The lines are not even. Some pass fast with little drag. Others slow and thicken where the brush pressed harder. Norman Bluhm made his marks this way, quick and uneven, leaving a sense of movement on the sheet.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface holds the grey tones without shine, so the uneven paint strokes stay legible under room light. The frame keeps the edges clean and the back panel covers the rear.
It works above a study desk near a window. From the chair you see the broad strokes across the page. Closer up the fast lines and the thicker places show how the brush moved.
