About this work
Untitled 1966 1 by Eva Hesse shows a pale sheet with thin pencil strokes and soft marks that drift across the field. The lines do not line up in a grid.
They sit a little apart and look like hand drawn notes left on the page. The marks seem to pause and then start again in a new spot. A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel carries the drawing as it looks on the sheet.
The paper stays matte so the grey strokes stay soft and do not shine under a lamp. It works on the wall above a writing desk where you can read the small pencil lines while you sit. From the chair you see the loose marks, and the room feels steady without noise.
