Untitled

Untitled - 1967 shows a small painted shape set into a wider field of pale colour. The mark sits near the centre and the paint stays thin at the edges. Forrest Bess often worked this way, with simple forms on a calm ground.

The fine art frame in white gives the picture a clean edge where the paint meets the wall. A dark wood finish would sit heavier against the pale field, and black would hold the small shape in place. You choose the finish that fits the room.

In a bedroom, the pale ground stays soft on the wall and the small shape reads first at the foot of the bed. The painted mark stays flat in the morning light.
