About this work
Untitled - 1967 shows thin bands of wash colour laid over a pale ground. The paint spreads in broad ribbons and leaves the paper looking open. Helen Frankenthaler worked with soak stain painting, and this print carries that same method. The colours stay flat and the edges stay loose.
The frame finish can follow the room, so a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture both work. The fine art print sits on a matte sheet, and the thin paint lines stay quiet under a soft lamp.
A narrow hallway near a stairwell keeps the thin colour bands in view. From the landing you notice the pale wash first, and the small changes in tone stay visible as you pass.
