About this work
Untitled 89-3 Menziken - 1989 shows stacked rectangular forms set on a plain ground. The shapes follow one another in a steady rhythm. This approach belongs to minimalist art practice, and Donald Judd kept his forms hard edged and unadorned.
The fine art print uses a matte sheet, so the flat tones stay even and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall separates the forms from the surface, while a dark frame on a pale wall does the same in reverse.
On the landing wall above the second step, the stacked shapes sit low and the eye reads them as a row of blocks. In a bedroom beside a wooden dresser, a wood frame joins the furniture and the forms stay clear.
