Untitled JUDDO0511-JUDDO0514 — Fine Art

Untitled JUDDO0511-JUDDO0514 - 1989 by Donald Judd shows a set of hard edged rectangular planes arranged in a row on a plain ground. The paint sits in flat layers, so each block reads as a separate unit with no blending between them.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface holds the solid colour planes without a shine, which keeps the hard edges clear and stops the surface from reflecting light.

On a bedroom wall above a low dresser the repeated blocks form a steady rhythm that reads from the foot of the bed. The plain ground gives the dark planes room to sit on their own. From the doorway the row of rectangles lines up with the door frame.
