Untitled L. I88; SFE 065 by Sam Francis shows open colour washes spread over a pale ground. The paint lays in thin layers with small gaps between the shapes. From across the room the colour blocks read as simple forms. Up close the thin edges and the white paper beneath them come through.

The fine art print uses matte paper, so the light passages stay soft and the pale ground does not take on a shine. A light frame on the left wall keeps the white field open, and the same paper holds the thin colour layers without flattening them.

On the landing wall by the stairs, the pale ground meets the pale plaster and the colour stays quiet. From the bottom step you see the broad colour shapes, and from the top you notice the thin paint edges.
