About this work
Untitled S. # 199 - 1990 by Donald Judd uses flat painted planes set in a regular row against a plain ground. The artist worked in industrial materials and repeated forms as part of the minimalist art movement. The change in tone moves slowly from one unit to the next.
The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black and gives the picture a clear line on the wall. A white finish keeps the painted planes separate from the room, while a dark wood finish settles the row against the wall.
In a hallway with a narrow strip of daylight, the repeated shapes catch the light as you walk past. In a study with a desk facing the print, the steady rhythm of the row holds the eye on the work.
