Untitled SF 259

Untitled SF 259 opens with broad colour washes laid over a wide white field. Thin layers of pigment leave gaps of bare paper between the painted areas. Sam Francis works with open colour and chance marks across the sheet.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The white frame finish keeps the edge clean against the pale ground. The frame gives the picture a clear border on the wall. A dark wood finish would push the painted areas forward and change how the white space reads.

On a kitchen wall near the breakfast table you notice the painted gaps first, then the thin colour bands as you move past the sink. The white frame stays quiet beside the ceramic tiles.
