About this work
A face built from small repeated brush marks sits against a soft ground in Variation 1918. The painted face reads like a closed shape, with colour broken into small strokes that follow the surface. Alexej von Jawlensky worked in an expressionist practice of reducing a head to a few planes and marks.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger is fitted to the back and goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the soft paint colour from shining under a lamp.
It fits a hallway wall where you pass it each morning. The small brush marks show up from a step away, and the quiet face holds the space without pulling the eye. The hallway stays open and the print stays in view.
