A thick stem rises from a small vase in Vase of Amaryllis 1941. Wide petals spread out at the top, painted in a few clear colours. Henri Matisse often worked with bold flat forms and simple outlines. The flower fills most of the picture and leaves little empty space.

This is a fine art print set inside a frame with a back panel. The paper keeps the painted colours soft instead of shiny. You see the broad petals and the clear outlines as they were laid down on the surface.
