About this work
Wall Stripes No. 3 - 1962 shows bands of painted colour stepping across the sheet in one direction. The stripes hold steady hues from edge to edge. Gene Davis built the image with hard edge colour fields that read as a calm rhythm.
This fine art print sits on a matte paper that keeps the painted look soft. A light frame on a dark wall lets each band stand apart without glare. You can place it higher on the wall so the stripes read as a single wide band from the hall.
It fits a narrow study wall beside a desk where the light comes from one side. From the doorway you see the colour bands pull the eye along the wall. Up close the hard edges stay sharp and the tones change in small steps.
