Water Surface — Fine Art

Water Surface by Sam Gilliam keeps the eye on broad washes of colour that move across the sheet. The paint sits in loose bands, with empty areas left open between them. Some bands run lighter, some darker, and the edges do not line up as a straight line.

The fine art frame follows the room around it. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale washes read clearly, and a dark frame on a pale wall gives the colour bands more room. The matte paper holds the soft tones down without shine under indoor light.

It fits a hallway wall near the stairs, where you pass by at a steady pace. From there the open ground and the shifted bands feel calm, and the eye settles on one band before moving on.
