About this work
Watermelons 1977 by Rufino Tamayo shows two whole melons sitting on a plain ground. The fruit fills the lower half and the space above stays open. A thick dark outline holds the round forms in place.
Rufino Tamayo often worked with simple fruit shapes and strong flat colour. The print comes as a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the red tones from shining under a lamp.
You can see the black lines without glare. Hang it in a half bath near the mirror. From the door the two dark green rinds read as solid blocks against the lighter wall.
