About this work
Weehawken Sequence, No. 30 - 1916 by John Marin shows a watercolour with loose drawn lines crossing a pale paper field. The marks cluster on one side, leaving the rest of the sheet open. John Marin often worked in watercolour and pencil, laying down quick strokes that leave the paper showing through.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte surface keeps the soft greys of the watercolour from reflecting too much under a lamp.
It fits on a narrow study wall above a desk, seen from the doorway at a distance. From there the drawn shapes read clearly, and from the chair you notice the thin pencil traces on the lighter ground.
