About this work
Western Dream, 1957- shows broad washes of thin colour laid across an open sheet. The marks run into one another, leaving soft edges where the paint thins out. This kind of soak stain painting is part of the wider body of work by Helen Frankenthaler.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The frame finish can follow the room, so a light frame on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale wall both fit. A wood frame beside wooden furniture ties the print to the surrounding surfaces.
It hangs on a long wall above a sofa, set so the lower wash sits near eye level from the doorway. In the morning light the pale area stays open and the soft marks stay clear from across the room.
