Wild Vine — Fine Art

Wild Vine by Hans Hofmann shows a tangle of green and black lines against a pale ground. The vine shapes turn and cross over each other, and the paint sits thick in places. Hans Hofmann worked in abstract expressionism, and his practice often used pushed colour and quick painted gestures.

The paper is matte, so the darks stay flat and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame can sit on a dark wall, or a wood frame can go beside wooden furniture. This fine art print keeps the green tone soft.

It works above a kitchen counter where the morning light comes in low. From the sink you notice the green lines first, and from the table you see the small black marks in the paint.
