Wols (Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze) was a German artist and a founding figure of Art Informel and Tachisme in post-war Paris, celebrated for his small, intensely worked drawings and watercolours of organic, cellular forms that express existential anxiety and fragile beauty. His tragic, brief life gave his art a raw, desperate power.
