About this work
The word Lisp runs across the picture in block letters set on a plain field. The letters hold a cool tone against a softer background. Edward Ruscha built this fine art print from a painted text motif, the kind of word painting he made through the 1960s. The letters read left to right on a flat ground.
The paper is matte, so the tones in the letters stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the letters clear without crowding them. The finish of the frame can follow the room you choose.
It sits on a hallway wall near the front door, where the morning light falls across the letters as you pass. From the stairs you see the word first, then the plain ground beside it.
