Map — Fine Art

Map shows the outline of the United States painted in red and blue with white land and blue water. The states sit as clear shapes against a plain ground. Jasper Johns worked with familiar images like flags and numbers. The picture uses bold colour blocks and careful outlines to make a well known map feel new.

The frame has a clean edge that holds the painted map shapes in view. White, wood, dark wood or black finishes change how the border meets the colour inside. You get a steady line around the image when you hang it as fine art.

A hallway wall with natural light brings out the red and blue tones. The painted outlines stay clear on the matte surface. From the stair landing you see the whole map shape at once.
