Multiform — Fine Art

Multiform 1948 by Mark Rothko shows broad shaded bands that drift across the sheet. The eye catches each colour shift from near the doorway, then notices the finer edges when you move closer.

The work reads as a single open field of stacked colour shapes. The fine art print uses a matte surface so the layered tones stay even and there is no shine under the living room lamp.

You can hang it on the stairwell wall with a dark frame on the pale plaster. From the landing the muted rectangles fill the wall, and the soft transitions between each band stay clear.
