Solstice — Fine Art

The title Solstice points to a turning point in the year, and the painting responds with pushed colour blocks that seem to lean toward one another. Hans Hofmann builds the surface with broad planes of paint laid over each other, so warm and cool areas press against the same sheet.

This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fixed to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. You do not need to buy a frame separately.

In a kitchen with one bare wall near the sink, the broad colour planes settle into the room at a normal standing distance. The warm area draws the eye first, then the cooler band beside it, and the paint marks read as quick decisions rather than filled shapes.
